Environmental Project Support Intern

Taylor’s lifelong passion has been to uplift and support Indigenous rights and communities. In everything Taylor does, she brings inclusion, accessibility, and kindness. She is passionate about inherent Indigenous and treaty rights and is particularly drawn to Indigenous knowledge and ecology work. 

Taylor previously worked for the Georgian Bay Anishinaabek Youth as the Cultural Programs Manager; Killbear Provincial Park as a Park Naturalist; interned with the Operational Research Unit for the RCMP; among several other community positions for Shawanaga First Nation.

Taylor’s Anishinaabe name is Nanowaygahkekwe, which loosely translates to bringing people together. This has largely influenced the type of work Taylor has pursued. She is a co-founder of an Indigenous grassroots organization that strives to provide accessible land-based cultural programs for Indigenous youth. Taylor was born in Hawaii and moved to her traditional territory of Mnidoo Gamii, Georgian Bay, when she was four. She feels very connected to the land and water and strives to honour her identity, community, and ancestors in the work she does.

Taylor holds a Bachelor of Arts Honours in legal studies from Carleton University with a minor in Indigenous Studies. Taylor will be attending the University of Victoria for a dual degree JD/JID.

Taylor is an avid paddler and water lover. She recently picked up surfing while in Hawaii and is committed to being able to surf beyond “baby waves”.
