Environment Climate Change Canada
Climate Adaptation Report
As part of their involvement in and reporting for the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) wanted to highlight First Nations–led environmental stewardship projects that aligned with the GLWQA objectives. ECCC hired SVS to review Great Lakes environmental stewardship projects and initiatives led by First Nations in the last five years, and then to write project profiles highlighting some of the work that has been and is being done.
SVS made recommendations for next steps ECCC could take to follow up with Indigenous Climate Leadership initiatives. These included strategic actions for continued relationship building where ECCC could convene the Nations to continue to talk about stewardship opportunities. We drafted profiles that showcased the Nation, summarized past and current projects, and included the Nation’s hopes for the future. After these were reviewed by the First Nation community contacts, the final profiles were presented to ECCC. The profiles are for use by ECCC in their final reporting and for sharing with First Nations and other Great Lakes partners. They will help to facilitate knowledge-sharing among Great Lakes First Nations that will help coordinate environmental efforts.

Peguis First Nation
Climate Vulnerability & Integrated Emergency Response Plan
Shared Value Solutions supported Peguis First Nation to complete the first phase of a climate change vulnerability and emergency response and preparedness planning project funded through the First Nations Adapt Program. Our team assisted Peguis First Nation in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting climate data, weaving western scientific and Indigenous Knowledge on climate change. The team also supported Peguis in community engagement to understand community vulnerabilities to climate change and develop adaptation actions that will inform better planning to prevent, mitigate, and respond to emergencies.
Our Lands and Planning Team
“We bring a climate adaptation lens to all of our Planning services — including Land Use, Community, and Emergency Preparedness.”
