Robert Alemany

Senior Consultant, Project Director

Robert is an experienced cross-cultural negotiator and facilitator. He has worked extensively in the natural resource development field with the Ontario provincial government and mining industry. Some of his previous roles have seen him enforcing the provisions of the Ontario Mining Act as a compliance officer.  He has also been responsible for performing the tasks of a regulator, which include evaluating applications, issuance of permits, review of work, and the evaluation of permit amendments. With the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) he worked in a variety of districts and was seen as the expert for duty to consult issues and responsible for reconciliation between MNR and various Indigenous communities. He spent his time at a major mining company improving relationships and building Indigenous participation in a hundred-year-old mining camp including the first operating open pit mine with direct Indigenous participation. He has successfully built positive relationships despite many contentious files, including the dismantling of a Sudbury icon, the Inco Superstack.

Robert holds a certificate in environmental biology with a focus on industrial land reclamation, giving him a strong understanding of the theories and practical implementation of reclamation. His education in Sudbury was based on the historic successes of the Sudbury regreening and the environmental recovery of the mining wasteland caused by surface smelting of sulphide ore. He also has a strong affinity for case law and history, which he often leverages to build robust and well-informed strategies.
