Environmental Project Support Intern

Growing up off the grid and on the water laid the foundation for Alex’s deep connection to the environment. Raised in her community of Whitefish River First Nation, she learned to respect and value the lands, waters, and animals that are central to her culture. These formative experiences shaped her passion for environmental stewardship and inspired her to pursue a career dedicated to supporting communities like her own. Alex remains committed to developing solutions and providing support for Indigenous communities that aim to protect and preserve natural resources for future generations. Throughout her studies, Alex has had the privilege of working with communities in Nunavik to develop sustainable drinking water solutions. In addition, she has gained hands-on experience as a lead field technician in her own community of Whitefish River First Nation, where she conducted and assisted with wide-ranging environmental sampling, including fish, water, turtles, soil, and more. One of the most fulfilling aspects of her journey has been organizing community engagement events and education activities. These initiatives have provided meaningful opportunities for Alex to give back to her community that has supported her throughout her educational and personal development.

Alex’s passion for water and environmental sustainability led her to pursue a bachelor’s degree in water sciences at Trent University. After completing her degree, she recognized the privilege of growing up in a community with access to clean drinking water and became determined to help other communities achieve the same. This commitment inspired her to pursue a master’s in environmental engineering at Carleton University, which she is currently completing. 

Alex really enjoys reading, outdoors sports, and anything that involves being on the water.
