Zoë Barrett-Wood, B.Sc.

Zoë has a background in environmental geography and ecology, as well as extensive experience with participatory community-based research, facilitation, project management, policy research, and literature review.  She comes from a family of artists, has studied acting and improv, and performs live theatre, stand-up comedy, and improv. Zoë has combined her arts and social science interests through training in a variety of approaches to creative facilitation and arts-based community engagement.

Zoë’s diverse interests and strengths have led her to work on community well-being assessment and indigenous knowledge synthesis in Northern Ontario, community-based land use research in Guatemala, project impact assessment in India, and radio shows in Nunavut. She has worked as a field ecologist in the boreal forest of the Yukon, the mud flats of James Bay, and the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.

Zoë has spent the majority of the past five years working with Inuit and First Nation communities on projects related to community well-being, and the environmental and social impacts of mining. Zoë is grateful to these communities and all the individuals who have shared their knowledge through interviews, focus groups, art, stories, fishing trips, food preparation, sweats, and more.
