Archaeologist/Cultural Heritage Specialist

Are you an experienced Archaeologist and / or Cultural Heritage Specialist who is looking for an opportunity to make a difference with your work? This might be the job for you! The person we are seeking will have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience completing Archaeology and Cultural Heritage studies. SVS’s Archaeologist will work collaboratively with our team and clients to:

  • Undertake third-party technical peer reviews of Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Studies on behalf of our Indigenous community clients
  • Deliver Archaeological Monitoring training and capacity building to First Nations, Metis and Inuit organizations and individuals
  • Provide other consultation and regulatory process support as needed

Salary and benefits are competitive and negotiable.

Mandatory Qualifications and Experience

  • P licensed archaeologist in Ontario
  • Masters degree in archaeology or equivalent field
  • Knowledge of archaeology and cultural heritage legislation in Ontario
  • Knowledge of Canadian and Ontario Environmental assessment regulations and practices
  • Work experience related to Indigenous cultural heritage
  • Interest in and respect for Indigenous culture and history
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Strong plain language and technical communications proficiency, including report writing and presentations
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, including an interest in and experience with relationship-based approaches to business development


Asset Qualifications

  • Knowledge of archaeology and cultural heritage legislation and regulatory requirements in one or more of the other provinces/territories in which we work: Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nunavut, or elsewhere in Canada
  • Experience managing and leading interdisciplinary teams
  • Experience effectively managing budgets
  • Working directly for or with First Nation, Metis and/or Inuit communities or organizations
  • Teaching and training archaeological monitoring or other cultural heritage concepts
  • Working as a consultant
